Gothic poetry presentations.
Wednesday
Each student will be introduced to Study Island, an online learning resource. Then they will complete the diagnostic reading assessment in the computer lab.
Thursday
The students will use Study Island to practice reading organizational structures. This activity will be graded. make sure it is complete by tomorrow. Remember: You can access your Study Island account from this blog though the link at the left.
Friday
The students will use Study Island to practice using context clues and classical word roots to understand vocabulary. This activity will also be graded. Please make sure it is complete by the end of the day.

Read and interpret "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe in cooperative pairs.
Tuesday
Field trip to Pax Amicus Castle Theatre is tomorrow! Bring a bag lunch -- there is no food for sale there!
Today in class we will identify the following poetic devices in "The Raven":
alliteration
assonance
repetition
internal rhyme
end rhyme
Then we will discuss the effect that these devices have on the mood of the poem.

Our classes will go to Pax Amicus Castle Theatre in Budd Lake today. Visit their website: http://www.paxamicus.com/ Click on "Events List" then "Edgar Allan Poe" for more information about the performance we will be enjoying! Do not forget to bring your lunch. There is no food for sale there.

In class we will watch the A&E Biography piece on Edgar Allan Poe. There is a worksheet to go along with it that must be turned in by tomorrow!
Wednesday
Today we will read "The Tell-Tale Heart" and interpret the narrator's state of mind. There is a "Prove-It" worksheet that is due tomorrow.
Thursday
Today we will read the macabre tale, "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe and complete a Venn Diagram for it and "The Tell-Tale Heart" from yesterday.
Friday
Today we will read "The Masque of the Red Death," also by Edgar Allan Poe, and discuss the Gothic literary elements therein. Make sure you get the notes!

Wednesday - Friday: We will watch the Gary Sinise and John Malkovich movie version and compare its portrayal of the characters and the overall tension with what we read over the last few weeks.
